Physio-Led Strength Classes

Physio-led strength classes are exercise sessions designed, progressed, and supervised by a Registered Physiotherapist to ensure safe, effective movement tailored to your body. They offer a structured approach to active rehab—focusing on proper mechanics while gradually building load, intensity, volume, and impact—making them an ideal option for those returning from injury or looking to prevent one. Programming is guided by trained health and fitness professionals, and for many individuals, these sessions may be eligible for coverage under extended health benefits when clinically appropriate.

    • These classes are ideal for anyone who wants guided, safe, and progressive exercise with a clinical lens, especially:

      • Individuals recovering from injury or returning to exercise after time off

      • People dealing with ongoing aches or pain who need help moving confidently

      • Beginners who want to learn proper form and movement mechanics

      • Active individuals or athletes looking to improve performance and prevent injury

      • Those who feel unsure in a gym setting and want expert supervision

      • Anyone wanting a structured, progressive program rather than random workouts

They’re especially helpful if you’ve ever thought, “I know I should be exercising, but I’m not sure what’s safe or right for me.”

  • Our postnatal physio-led strength classes are divided into level I & II and are programmed and taught by a pelvic health physiotherapist and pregnancy & postpartum athleticism coaches.

These series focus on rebuilding core, pelvic floor, and overall strength through intentional, progressive exercises tailored to the postpartum body and return to movement goals.

These classes emphasize proper technique and controlled progression, helping reduce the risk of injury and common postpartum concerns while supporting a safe return to daily activity and fitness. They combine rehabilitation and strength training, offering a structured and supportive path back to feeling strong and confident.

  • A typical physio-led strength class is structured, progressive, and adaptable to your level—all while being closely supervised:

    1. Warm-Up

    • Guided mobility and activation exercises

    • Focus on key areas (hips, core, shoulders)

    • Breathing and movement prep to set good mechanics

    2. Movement Skill & Technique

    • Break down 1–2 key movement patterns (e.g. squat, horizontal push, vertical pull, hinge, etc)

    • Coaching on form, alignment, and muscle engagement

    • Regressions or progressions based on your ability

    3. Strength Work

    • Structured exercises targeting full-body strength

    • Options to adjust load, reps, and intensity

    • Often includes unilateral work (single-leg/arm) for balance and stability

    • Close supervision and real-time feedback

    4. Accessory / Stability Work

    • Core, balance, or smaller muscle groups

    • Injury prevention focus

    • Reinforces movement quality

    5. Cooldown & Check-In

    • Light mobility or stretching

    • Quick recap, questions, and guidance for progression

    • Individualized coaching within a group setting

    • Built-in progression week-to-week (not random workouts)

    • Emphasis on how you move, not just what you do

    • Physio-led and able to modify appropriately around injury, pain, restrictions and provide prognosis of return to full activity in the moment

Overall, it feels like a blend of rehab + strength training, giving you confidence to move well and get stronger safely.

How to Register For a Physio-Led Class Series

These are not drop-in style classes, if you can’t make a class you may be sent the programming to do at home for that week.
