David and I met when we were both pursuing our Doctorate and Masters degrees, respectively. He was going to school in upstate New York and I was living in downtown Toronto attending University of Toronto Masters in Physical Therapy program. Student life together was fun, but the real fun began when we graduated and started living together all at the same time.
We both knew we wanted our work to reflect our values in life: movement, education, empowering others and human connection. We didn’t want to build just a clinic, but a hub of wellness, community, socialization (have you met David!?) and fun! While this took a lot of time, having this clear vision eventually got us to exactly where we wanted to be.
2014 - I graduated and began working in a Strength & Conditioning gym as their Physiotherapist. David was starting his residency for Chiropractic College.
2016 - I incorporated Flow Physio + Wellness and started my own business renting space in Frenchman’s Bay from a chiropractic clinic. David was finishing up his last year of Chiropractic College in upstate New York.
2017 - Working as an independent contractor for another clinic while also trying to grow FLOW, I was doing a lot of free in-services, workshops and education with women’s groups, mommy groups, wellness conventions, strength & conditioning gyms.
2018 - Moved FLOW into Are You Game in Oshawa and rented clinic space from them - truly an amazing gym and supportive owners and atmosphere and got an opportunity to work with my favourite populations - athletes and women. David joined FLOW part-time here too and we started working together, cute!
2019 - Moved FLOW again into Crossfit Dioxide in Newcastle, David and I met some awesome people here and it really solidified my belief that being a local small business means connecting with your community on a deeper level than just a transactional therapist/client relationship. We are still in touch with many people from the CF Dioxide community and for that we are super grateful!
2020 - COVID, ugh. I finally quit my job as an independent contractor for another clinic so I could focus on filling our own cup/business full-time (this was scary AF). Dioxide unfortunately closed down and we moved FLOW again, renting a room in the office building in downtown Bowmanville (Scugog/King St). We realized we loved being a part of the downtown and began looking for our own commercial unit.
2022 - We signed our first commercial lease at 15 King St West, right in the heart of downtown Bowmanville (our current spot!) We grew our team by +1 (shoutout to Rachel Wilson)
2023 - Kept growing, evolving our offerings, up-leveling our skills. David left his other job as an independent contractor for a clinic in Pickering that he was working at with his brother (who is also a chiropractor) and came on full-time at FLOW. I was asked to come on as a lululemon Ambassador for lululemon Oshawa, for our community events and social outreach we have been a part of through FLOW.
2024 - We signed the commercial leave for 15B King Street West - the unit right beside our original office. We doubled our size to 2500 sqft and completed some renos on both units.
2025 - We finally had a grand opening party for FLOW 3 years after first moving to 15 King St…it was so great and we feel so lucky to have such an amazing, supportive, kind community of patients, friends, and family. Ashley Endicott and I also started Pillar Pilates Inc. with the mission of certifying Mat Pilates Instructors with comprehensive Pilates education rooted in anatomy, quality movement and accessibility.
2026 - We renovated the downstairs of our unit into 3 additional treatment rooms and an additional studio space for group classes.
So that’s it! That’s all the iterations of FLOW. I feel super lucky to work alongside my best friend and partner in life, parenting and business and can’t wait to see where things go from here!
What would you like to see at FLOW in the future? How can we best serve our community? We would love to connect with you!
