Meet Mina: A Physiotherapist Dedicated to Sport, Women’s Health, and Whole-Person Care

Mina is a registered physiotherapist whose clinical approach is shaped by a deep understanding of sport, women’s health, and evidence-based rehabilitation. With advanced training across multiple specialties, she helps people not only recover from injury, but return to movement with confidence and resilience.

A Strong Academic and Athletic Foundation

Mina completed her Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Kinesiology and Master of Physiotherapy at McMaster University, one of Canada’s leading institutions for health sciences. Her kinesiology background provides a strong foundation in human movement, biomechanics, and exercise science—essential for understanding how injuries occur and how the body adapts to rehabilitation.

While at McMaster, Mina also competed as a Varsity Lacrosse Athlete, giving her firsthand experience with the physical and mental demands of sport. This dual perspective—as both an athlete and clinician—allows her to truly understand what it takes to return to play safely and effectively.

From Personal Injury to Professional Purpose

Mina’s own experiences with injury and rehabilitation sparked her interest in physiotherapy. Those experiences shaped her patient-centered approach and motivated her to pursue advanced training in treating athletes.

Today, Mina has extensive experience working with athletes of all levels, from recreational to national and professional teams, with a particular focus on contact sports. She currently serves as the physiotherapist for the Aurora Barbarians Rugby team, where she supports injury prevention, acute care, and return-to-sport planning.

She is also working toward her Sport Physiotherapist designation through Sport Physiotherapy Canada, a credential that reflects advanced expertise in sport assessment, performance, and high-level rehabilitation.

Advancing Women-Centred and Pelvic Health Care

Through her work in women’s sport, Mina recognized a significant gap in women-centred healthcare. This led her to pursue advanced training in pelvic health, becoming a Registered Pelvic Floor Physiotherapist.

Pelvic health physiotherapy requires specialized postgraduate education and clinical mentorship. Mina’s training allows her to assess and treat conditions that are often overlooked or normalized, including:

  • Pelvic pain and pelvic floor dysfunction

  • Gynecological conditions such as PCOS and endometriosis

  • Prenatal and postpartum concerns

  • Incontinence, prolapse, and core dysfunction

By combining pelvic health care with strength training and functional rehabilitation, Mina helps women stay active, strong, and confident throughout all stages of life.

Expertise in Orthopedic and Spine Care

In addition to sport and pelvic health, Mina has extensive training in orthopedic physiotherapy, with a special interest in acute and chronic low back pain.

She has completed advanced education through the McKenzie Method (MDT), an internationally recognized system for assessing and treating spinal conditions. This approach emphasizes precise diagnosis, patient education, and active self-management. It is particularly effective for conditions such as:

  • Disc herniations

  • Sciatica

  • Spinal stenosis

This training allows Mina to create targeted treatment plans that help clients return to the activities they enjoy—often with fewer flare-ups and greater long-term independence.

A Holistic, Individualized Approach to Treatment

Mina believes that no two bodies—or injuries—are the same. Her care is holistic and individualized, combining:

  • Exercise-based rehabilitation

  • Manual therapy

  • Acupuncture and dry needling

  • Cupping

  • Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) training

  • Athletic taping

These tools are used strategically to reduce pain, restore movement, and build long-term strength—not as standalone treatments, but as part of a comprehensive rehab plan.

Connecting Through Language and Lifestyle

Mina offers care in English, Serbian, Bosnian, and Croatian, helping ensure clear communication and culturally sensitive care for a diverse patient population.

Outside of the clinic, she enjoys Pilates, strength training, spending time outdoors with her dog, and cooking—interests that reflect her belief in balanced, sustainable movement both in and out of rehabilitation.
